Trade Your Wine

Having collected wines over a period of time the worst thing one can do is sit back on the assumption that there is nothing else to do other then enjoy the fruits of your labour and expenditure.

Too many people forget that wine is a living product and, unlike a spirit, will age in bottle ie every wine in the cellar will taste that little bit different in a year’s time.

I have forgotten how many cellars I have been asked to value and had to give an excited collector the difficult news – ‘sorry but many of your bottles are well past the optimum drinking date, or stored badly, or have damp affected labels, or have low levels due to excessive heat in the cellar and therefore are not worth as much as you expect’.

The cellar must be worked – apart from regular temperature and humidity control checks vintages must also be reviewed against the latest press reports and other trade outlets. Occasionally there may be more stock than is required in the cellar – please do not hesitate to trade excess stock either for reinvestment in younger wines or for a cash return.

I am happy to advise on the best way to market and, for an agreed commission, carry out the trade for the owner.

The objective is to maximise the enjoyment gained from a perfect bottle of great wine – never be happy with second best!
