A WINE CELLAR IN TUSCANYAnyone that has regularly topped up his or her racking will have been confronted with the annoying problem of trying to fit 12 bottles into 8 available slots – and therefore having to find another 4 spaces elsewhere. The photograph shows one of the best ways to overcome this problem – using wooden notches above and below the racking to enable the partitions to be widened or shortened to suit the bottle numbers. Although the initial expense of preparing the racking is likely to be more expensive (unless one is a handy carpenter oneself) the flexibility this offers is extremely useful in quickly identifying how many bottles of each wine are left to consume. Incidentally this cellar is in Tuscany and houses some of the finest wines from Tuscany, Bordeaux and Burgundy.
